IVI and Arcot Foundation partner in Flood Relief Vision Screening Campaign at Amir Mahal
As part of its flood relief initiative in Chennai, India Vision Institute (IVI) organized a vision screening program for the local flood affected community at Amir Mahal, Triplicane on 29 January 2016 in partnership with the Arcot Foundation.
The campaign was launched jointly by the Dewan to the Prince of Arcot, Nawabzada Mohammed Asif Ali, along with IVI CEO, Mr Vinod Daniel, in the presence of the Nawab of Arcot, Mohammed Abdul Ali. “As Chennai is slowly recovering from the recent calamity, we at IVI are delighted to be of assistance to some of the communities hard hit by the floods by providing free spectacles, thereby improving their productivity and quality of life through improved vision” said IVI CEO, Mr Daniel. Many of these people had lost everything including their spectacles during the floods, he added.
Nawabzada Mohammed Asif Ali said “it was a great pleasure for the Arcot Foundation to work with IVI in supporting the local flood affected community”.
IVI has organized similar campaigns across the flood affected areas in Chennai in the last four weeks: Palavakkam, Madipakkam, Pallikaranai, Saidapet, Kotturpuram and Palkalai Nagar. 1183 people were screened, out of which 773 will shortly be provided free spectacles.
IVI acknowledges the support of Essilor Vision Foundation in providing free spectacles to those diagnosed with refractive errors; and the Arcot Foundation for their partnership in making this campaign at Amir Mahal possible.
Free spectacles distributed to flood affected communities in Triplicane by India Vision institute and Arcot Foundation
India Vision Institute (IVI) in partnership with the Arcot Foundation, distributed free spectacles to 103 people from underprivileged communities in Triplicane on 7 March 2016 at Amir Mahal. This was part of the flood relief initiative that was undertaken at seven locations in greater Chennai.
Presided by Nawab Mohammed Abdul Ali (Prince of Arcot), Nawabzada Mohammed Asif Ali (Dewan to the Prince of Arcot), Mr. Bharat Joshi (British Deputy High Commissioner), Mr. Robin Singh (Former Indian Cricketer), Mr. Mervin Alexander (Post Master General) and Mr. Vinod Daniel (CEO, India Vision Institute) distributed spectacles to 103 people from among 138 of those previously screened by Optometrists from IVI on 29 January.
“Eye See & I work initiative of IVI is extending its support to those from disadvantaged communities who lost their spectacles in the recent floods causing severe destruction in and around Chennai” said Mr Vinod Daniel. “Over 1500 people have been screened across the flood affected areas of Palavakkam, Madipakkam, Pallikaranai, Saidapet, Kotturpuram, Triplicane and Kolathur since December 2015 and free spectacles is being provided to over 1100 people”, he added.
The Prince of Arcot said, “It was a great pleasure for the Arcot Foundation to work with IVI in supporting the local flood affected community and to be of service to humanity.”

Mr Bharat Joshi said he was delighted to be at Amir Mahal to conclude the Triplicane vision screening initiative commenced earlier this year. He also commended the work being done by India Vision Institute and the Arcot Foundation to provide the gift of sight through provision of spectacles.

Dewan to the Prince of Arcot Nawabzada Mohammed Asif Ali is very active in several social and cultural activities in the city and also among the Arcot family members. He is also actively involved in the Prince of Arcot Endowments, and is working on several projects for the upkeep of the Endowment activities.
