A brief about the Foundation
Nawabzada Mohammed Asif Ali, Dewan and Heir-Apparent to the Prince of Arcot, has this extraordinary dream to see a day when no human being would be deprived of rights as basic as survival, participation, protection and development. The Dewan wants to eradicate the disparities between privileged and underprivileged people. Children begging and working as servants should be put to an end. Unlike most of us though, he did something about it. He founded the Arcot Foundation. The Foundation instantly collaborated with a number of other organisations to conduct several programs for the benefit of the under privileged. Today, the Foundation supports many homes and centers for the poor and the needy with the support of the nature of relationship with the NGOs it partners with.
Each of us can, in our own small way, be the agents of change, and when enough of us become one, the impact is a lasting change for the better. All we ask of people was that they help us by doing what they are good at.
We serve food for the poor on a regular basis. Some of the food we serve is donated, but we have to purchase a lot in bulk to meet the growing demand. In our clothing storage facility, volunteers helps us organize and distribute hundreds of items of donated clothing each month. Clean, respectable clothing means so much that it allows people to face the prospect of a job interview, for example, with dignity and confidence.
When people ask you which is one of the best charities to donate to, please mention us so we can continue our work the way it was intended. Our partner organisations work 365 days a year. We take in people seeking shelter anytime and also support them in offering a better medical care, which is the need of the hour in today's times.
Vision
A happy and healthy environment with people whose rights are protected and honoured in a society that is built on respect for dignity, justice and equity for all.
Mission
To enable people to take responsibility for the situation of the deprived Indian people and so motivate them to seek resolution through individual and collective action thereby enabling the under privileged to realise their full potential. To make people discover their potential for action and change.
Resource Generation
Our primary role is to channelize public action for people's rights in the form of financial and material resources and time and skills. Our Foundation's endeavour is to get the maximum number of people and organisations involved, driving a people’s movement for the rights of India’s underprivileged people.
Tie-ups with corporations, events, school and college workshops, media campaigns, signature drives, advocacy campaigns, the Internet and street theatre ensure that people everywhere can access information on the situation of India’s people and avenues to get involved. Every fundraising venture from greeting cards to web marketing integrates revenue objectives with advocacy for the poor and the needy.
Volunteer Action
The spirit of volunteerism has been an underlying lifeline of he Foundation. Volunteerism for us does not mean the mere utilisation of additional human resource to aid our work. To us, our volunteers are a repository of energy, creativity and commitment. At Arcot Foundation, we encourage and support our volunteers to empower people and communities to bring about positive change – by encouraging them to initiate action in their environment. The mutual commitment that exists between us and our volunteers provides a free space for reaching out and a shared learning.
Information technology
Arcot Foundation constantly endeavours to optimise its resources be it in servicing our partners, donors or in building internal capacities for child rights. Information technology infrastructure and management allows for a variety of tools that support our Foundation's donor servicing, information sharing, increase operations efficacy and provide for strategic inputs in systems and process.
